LGBT Foundation wants you to feel empowered and supported in your identity as an LB+ woman. Therefore, we’ve put together a few simple things you can do to improve your wellbeing and some further links for signposting and support.

Connecting with others

You might feel anxious meeting new people but expanding your network of support and keeping in touch with others can do wonders for your mental health and wellbeing. Connecting with other LB+ women can be really helpful in affirming your identity and making friends with those who share that identity. Remember, staying connected can include attending social groups and meet ups, online chats and even good ol’ snail mail!

Stay active

Whether you’re a gym enthusiast or prefer working out at home, staying active can be great for your self-esteem and physical and emotional health. If you are concerned about finding a LGBT friendly gym, a quick Google search can help. Alternatively, online workouts and tutorials are a great way to get started at home so you can exercise when it best suits you. Try to focus on strengthening your mind, body and spirit. Don’t feel you need to become a champion weight-lifter overnight – work with what feels best for you.

Be creative

You don’t need to be Picasso or trained in fine art to explore your creative side. Being creative can involve making art, dance, singing, writing poetry and so much more. Creating something can feel incredibly empowering and can be a way of processing your experiences and expressing your identity.

Give Back

Volunteering can be a great way of sharing your skills, increasing your confidence and becoming part of a community. There are a number of organisations that you can volunteer with such as The Proud Trust, Galop or LGBT+ Switchboard as well as community projects in your local community.
